The Save a Stray 5K & Festival runs concurrently with L.L.Bean’s Dog Days of August event!

Friday, August 23, 2019

4:00 – 7:00 p.m.Packet Pick Up & Registration, Discovery Patio

4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Give, Stay, Heel: Bootmobile Pet Supply Drive
Fill the Bootmobile with donations of pet food, toys, and other pet supplies to benefit the animals of Midcoast Humane. See our complete wish list here.

4:30 – 6:30 p.m., Adopt a Stray!, Discovery Park
Adopt your next four-legged family member from Midcoast Humane. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.

Starting at 6:00 p.m.,  Friday Night Movie: “Bolt”, Discovery Park
Pick up dinner at the 1912 Cafe or other fine Freeport restaurant, bring a blanket, and join us for a picnic in the park with a beloved family movie.

7:40 a.m., 5K Registration Ends, but Check-In & Walker Registration Continues, Discovery Park

8:00 a.m., Save a Stray 5K Run Begins, Morse Street

8:30 a.m., One Mile Walk Begins, Morse Street

9:00 a.m., 5K Run Awards Ceremony, Discovery Park   
Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finisher in eight different age groups. Prizes will range from Honey Stinger apparel to L.L.Bean gift cards and everything in between!

9:00 – 11:00 a.m., Ask a Veterinarian: Dr. Bennett Wilson, Morse Street
Dr. Wilson of Veterinary Quick Care in Freeport will be available to answer questions regarding the care and health of your dog.

9:15 a.m., Dog Contests, Discovery Park
Think your dog is the best? Compete against other dogs and owners in these contests just for canines… and go home with prizes! Dog/owner pairs are welcome to compete in more than one category. No need to register in advance — just show up at the stage!

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Kris McCabe and K-9 Morgan, from “North Woods Law”, Morse Street
The duo, who spent four seasons on Animal Planet TV’s hit show, come to the L.L.Bean campus for a meet and greet with fans. At 11:30 a.m. Kris and Morgan will be giving a K-9 Demo in Discovery Park.

10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Animal Communication with Judy Garbow, Discovery Patio
Find out what your dogs are feeling and thinking. Judy will be happy to engage you and your animal in an enlightening interspecies communication session.

10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Paws & Play Kids’ Fun Zone, Discovery Park
This event isn’t just for the dogs! Swing by our kids’ activity area for all kinds of games, crafts, face painting, and more.

10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.,  DockDogs, Moose Park
Watch novice to seasoned dogs compete in a long jump, high jump and timed retrieval. Do you have a dog who loves to jump into the water? Sign them up at dockdogs.com or register them at the event!

11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Meet Millie of Maine, Discovery Park
Since 2012, this vivacious yellow lab has accompanied the L.L.Bean Bootmobile team to events as a faithful companion and an adorable brand ambassador.

11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Planet Dog’s Bobbing for Orbees, Discovery Park
Visit the Planet Dog tent and let your dog try their luck at bobbing for recyclable, buoyant Orbees toys. Dogs who are successful will get a prize.

 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Rabies PLUS! Clinic, Morse Street
All dogs in the state of Maine must be vaccinated against rabies every three years. Enjoy discounted costs today only!

1:00 – 1:30 p.m., K-9 Demo: Corp. Michelle Small & K-9 Sampson (Bath PD), Discovery Park

12:00 – 2:00 p.m.,  Adventures of Columbo, with Andrea Shaw, Discovery Park
Come meet Columbo, a small dog making a big impact—funding urgent and specialty veterinary care for dogs at Midcoast Humane—the same care that saved his life. Andrea will share Columbo’s story at 1:30 p.m. at their tent in Discovery Park.
